this ipe deck replaces an earlier cedar deck. the seating area geometry of the original deck was changed from a more centralized shape to a skewed quadrilateral in order to address the asymmetry of the views and relationship to the house. furthermore previous wood and iron handrails were eliminated and replaced with a custom steel frame and cable system to minimize visual impact and complement the rich tones of the wood. most of the components for this project were fabricated in house.
